Another great weekend for the Muay Thai community, and an amazing result for Aussie MMA.
This time promoted by the guys at Double Dragon Martial Arts, the MTA Development Day was taken to a different level, being held at a separated venue (not in the promoter’s gym as usual), the event had a complete “show”atmosphere and we all had great fun.
With over 20 fights on the card, we witnessed some pretty good bouts, from various weight divisions and we could clearly see the development of our Martial Art through the performances of the combatants.
From SRG Thai Boxing Gym we had 2 representatives, in which unfortunately came out defeated from their fights but did the best they could.
As the first bout of the event, we had Ben SRG Porter fighting from the Blue Corner. He did well, fought through the 3 rounds but got outscored by a more aggressive and “busy”fighter.
The 7th bout of the evening also had one of us. Maria SRG Pisckunov was ready for her 6th bout. After a pretty good start, Maria unfortunately got caught with a hook and didn’t recover in time to keep on going. As a Development Day, these are experiences that are valid in order to learn and refs are not trying to get fighters to keep on going after getting caught.
On the flip side, we had a absolutely outstanding performance from an Australian MMA legend, Robert Whittaker, that simply showed what a fighter with a huge heat is by facing Yoel Romero and defeating him on a hard 5 rounds of 5 minutes bout at the UFC 213 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rob now holds the Interim Middleweight UFC Championship Belt and we look forward to see him beat Michael Bisping to unify his UFC Title.
We hope you all had a good weekend as well, and we can’t wait for another week of great training at SRG!
