The second trainer to be introduced in our series is Luis Cajaiba. Cajaiba is way more than a great trainer that enjoys his Brazilian funk music during our group classes.
In Muay Thai, well at least in traditional Muay Thai, we have three belts that can define one’s career, they are the Lumpinee belt, Rajadanmern belt and Thailand champion.
Cajaiba’s has many belts but one stands out the most. Thailand Champion being the first foreigner in history to win it. Before the glory and respect from the tough Thai crowd on the stadiums, we go way back to Brazil, where Cajaiba started training Muay Thai.
Originally from Sao Paulo, Luis started training Muay Thai at age of 14 years old due to a friend influence. At 16 years old, his first trainer invited him to have his first amateur fight which he immediatly accepted. The result? A loss. Considering he was injury free, his trainer knew about a tournament happening 4 hours away from Cajaiba’s hometown on the following day, took Luis to fight for a second time in two days and after a hard fight, Cajaiba had his first win and started his Muay Thai journey.
Due to his sucess fighting all over Brazil, he got the attention of a gym in Thailand that changed his life and shaped him in the fighter and trainer he is now. Phuket Fight Club, opened their doors and sponsored Cajaiba to try and achieve success in Thailand back in 2016 when Luis was only 20 years old and had around 30+ fights. In Thailand, Cajaiba had to deal with the heat, harder and longer training sessions, seasoned opponents plus a perfectionist trainer on Leo Elias.
In 7 years living in Thailand, Cajaiba had around 40 fights and his work ethic paid off. In 2018 he had his first world title fight and became the first Brazilian to win the coveted WBC World Title fighting against Australia’s finest Chadd Collins. Cajaiba also fought and won an IMC World Title and became Thailand Champion. Due to his achievements and classic Thai style (something highly appreaciated by the Thai crowds on the stadiums), Cajaiba became a frequent main eventer in events in Bangkok and Phuket leading him to compete for the renown Lumpinee title twice and for the Omnoi stadium once.
In his last year in Thailand, our trainer was also ranked at the prestigious Rajadamern stadium and competed at the world famous RWS reaching the tournament’s semifinal agaisnt Yodwicha.
Based in Australia since August 2023, Luis Cajaiba has been sought after by every Muay Thai promoter in Australia due to his global popularity and so far had had 4 fights, winning 3 of them having competed for a WMC M.A.D Title, 2 WBC International titles and a WBC World Title.
Cajaiba will be back in action on the 29th of March and you better keep an eye as he plans to fight for big things in 2025.
